Day 6

Breakfast wasn't the usual this morning, sadly. We ran out of goat yogurt, so it was a breakfast smoothie. Same recipe, just more fruit and more almond butter for a little extra protein.

Let's just say our supplies were depleting today. So, lunch was spaghetti squash, and dinner was a salad and a piece of pita bread.

So, with the depleted supplies, I ended up having three smoothies today... Yikes. Well, at least it wasn't chocolate.

I'll do better tomorrow, I promise.(;

Day 5

Today's breakfast was the usual.

Lunch was some leftover spaghetti squash. YUM!

Then my delicious smoothie I posted about earlier.

And for dinner,

we had some very very good chicken fajitas! SO GOOD! Of course, I couldn't have a tortilla, so I had some of my filling in a lettuce wrap, and some by itself.

Here's what they looked like:

Along with the filling (which was found from the recipes in The Maker's Diet book) we had some homemade salsa, goat cheese, and homemade guacamole.

Here's the salsa recipe:

8-10 cherry tomatoes
1/4 of a small onion
1/4 of a jalapeƱo
1 tsp of cilantro
1 clove of garlic

I pulsed all of these in my Magic Bullet with the cross blade until chunky. DELICIOUS!

The goat cheese was found at a local little Amish store called The Cheese Shoppe.

Here's the guacamole recipe:

3 avocados
Juice of a lime
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp of paprika
1/2 of a medium onion, chopped
2 cloves of garlic, chopped
2 Roma tomatoes, seeded and chopped
1 tbs of chopped cilantro

Coat peeled avocados with lime juice. Add spices and use potato masher to blend and smash avocados. Fold in chopped onion, garlic, cilantro, and tomatoes.

I will definitely be having all of this food today again! It was all so good! I highly recommend it.

YUM!

I'm posting this now, because it was SO good that I feel like it deserves it's own post! I will definitely be making this A LOT more!

What this is, is a berry smoothie. Did I mention that it was SO good?!

Once again, this was made with my Magic Bullet (which I LOVE!).

Strawberry Blueberry Smoothie

1 C of frozen strawberries. (I use Kirkland brand from Costco)
1/4 C of fresh blueberries. (These happened to be from Whole Foods Market)
1 Tbs of pure almond butter. (Martins)
1/4 C of goat yogurt.
1/2 C of water.
Agave to taste.

Blend until smooth! DELICIOUS!

Day 4

Well, we are half-way through week 1! Thank goodness!

Today for breakfast was the usual:
The goats milk yogurt was purchased at Martins. Chia seeds at Trader Joe's, and agave at WalMart. And let me tell you, I am LOVING this goat yogurt! Yummmmmy!

Today was grocery day, which always seems to happen right during the middle of my lunch time. So, I downed some super green drink, and off to the many grocery stores we went. We started at a local farmers market for some fresh produce, made a quick trip to Martins and finished up at WalMart. Since this was all happening from 11:00-3:00, my lunch consisted of a few pieces of fresh deli turkey, and some strawberries.

When I got home, I made this:

A smoothie with frozen strawberries, agave, and coconut milk. It was really very good, IF you like coconut milk. (Not to mention, it was made by my new super cool Magic Bullet! Awesome!)

And finally, for dinner we had spaghetti squash. I had planned to make a homemade meat sauce, but you know how that goes! So, for tonight, it was Prego and ground beef. Tasty, nonetheless!

Here's the spaghetti squash.

When you buy it, it looks like this:

Then, cut it in half, get the seeds out, and microwave each side in shallow water for 7-9 minutes. (Flesh side down).

And, it looks like this:

(After you pull it from the sides with a fork).

Sort of like spaghetti, and pretty tasty too!

Now, if I had been cooking for the family, I would've made a salad and some roasted carrots, but they went to McDonalds, so..

Snacks today were: strawberries, baby cucumbers with salt, and homemade salsa with a few Triscuit thins. (A bit of a cheat, but no yeast or sugar, so not too bad!)

Well, we are still going fairly strong! Let's keep it up!

After all, we're almost halfway there! (;

A few days late.

I hadn't thought of blogging my meal plans and my success/failures until today.  Today is Day 3 of my journey.  I decided to start eating the Maker's way, on the Maker's day!  So, here is a quick post of what I ate my first three days.  Sorry for the lack of pictures!  I will try and get on a routine with that.

Day 1:
Breakfast--Goat's milk yogurt with a squirt of agave.
(Agave is a natural sweetener and can be found at WalMart)

Lunch--Lentils seasoned with garlic and salt.

Dinner--Tilapia (seasoned with garlic salt, pepper, and lemon juice)
Roasted squash and zucchini. (Recipe

Day 2:
Breakfast--Goat's milk yogurt (again!) with agave, of course. BUT I added some chia seeds this morning to help the yogurt last a little longer in my tummy.

Lunch--Tuna salad (Tuna in water, carrots, onions, mayonnaise)

Dinner--Ground beef mixture.  This meal was supposed to be hamburger foils (which you will probably see at a later date).  However, the oven was tied up and I don't really know how to work the grill...so I had to improvise.  This was ground beef (97% lean) with green peppers, onion, carrots, garlic salt, soy sauce, and a tiny bit of worcestershire sauce.  It actually was not bad at all!

Day 3:
Breakfast--Goat's milk yogurt with chia seeds and agave, BUT I added blueberries this time! WOW! Look at me!

Lunch--Chicken Caprese Since Mozzarella isn't "legal" I substituted that with goat's milk soft cheese. (Found at Whole Foods Market).  Let's just say...I will not be eating this again until phase two when mozzarella is legal!

Dinner--Cracker Barrel Chicken Tenderloins with sauteed green beans and  avocado and tomato salad. Delicious!

I should also mention that my go-to snacks are any type of berries, and cherries.  SO MANY CHERRIES!

I also drink "super green drink" (once or twice a day) from Trader Joe's.  It is packed with veggies, and definitely keeps me full!  It is not the best tasting drink I've ever had, but if it keeps the cravings at a minimum, I will chug it down any day!

I'm not going to lie, phase one is killer hard!  However, the stomach issues have all but vanished, and I'd say it's worth it any day!

Welcome to my journey.

Hello, bloggers!

My name is Michaela, and for the past several years, I have had MAJOR health issues to be only a 17 year old girl.  IBS, headaches, migraines, joint pain, you name it.  By the age of 15, I had had 18 x-rays--more than many people have in one lifetime.  However, to my disappointment, the many tests, x-rays and doctor's visits never really helped me.

I had received no real solutions.

Until...

About 6 years ago, a book was introduced to my mom (who has many of the same issues) and I by a dear family friend.  This book is called The Maker's Diet.  It is a lifetime plan which the author used to 'cure' himself of his many issues.  Anyways, I will spare you the details.  If you want to learn more about Jordan Rubin's story, you can go here to buy the book.  (It is also sold at major book stores.)  Long story short, my mom and I decided to try it out.

AND IT WORKED!

Basically, the book is a plan that helps us eat the way the Maker designed.  It is based off of the diet of the people of Biblical times.  It contains three phases; the first being VERY strict, with each one following becoming more lenient.  My mom and I started this when I was in the 7th grade.  We did very well for about two years.  Then, one Christmas, we were tempted by these delicious seven layer cookies...

It was all downhill from there.

So, here I am, about to be a Freshman at BYU-I, with major stomach issues, headaches at least once a day, and a lot of pain in a lot of different areas.

My point is, I am ready to go back to the Maker's way.  You can join me if you like.

Welcome to my journey.
